Stanley Park Trails
Louise and Iain write:-
On a sunny Saturday five of us went for a ten km stroll round Stanley Park. Trip got off to a great start with seals, and possibly sealions, in the harbour. Beaver Pond provided beautiful reflections and the tree canopy was lovely. A lot of work is going on in the woods, trees that have been attaked by a moth were being chopped down. The stumps, which were quite high, were left with “crenellations” which we surmised were to help the stump harbour seeds so that new trees could grow in what is effectively a nurse stump.
Wide ranging conversation included buses (overcrowding), mistranslation, classrooms being set on fire, horses, parties and so on.
Low point was probably the Prospect Point Cafe, firmly boarded up with the owner blaming everyone but themselves for its lack of successs; COVID, Park Board, Cyclists.
We carried on to look at Siwash Rock and see the new ferry to Nanaimo going past on its way to Downtown, as well as container ships and bulk carriers at anchor. We ended up at Delaneys for coffee and sandwiches/cake. A good time was had by all.
