Dreamweaver, Per Gynt trail

Organiser, Perry. Writer, Mary.

On a sunny but cool day, eight club members joined Perry for the hike up to a spectacular look out on the Old Grouse Mountain Access road. The hike started at St Mary's Road. We ascended the well -trodden Dreamweavers trail which made switch backs up to Per Gynt trail which then ascended steeply to the Access road. There was dappled sunlight filtering through the forest as we made our way along the trails. We had to negotiate a few fallen trees, a reminder of the winter storms. Only two mountain bikers passed us coming down Dreamweaver as we made our way up. When we reached the top of Per Gynt, two hikers and their dogs appeared. They had hiked up Kilmer Creek and Expresso trail to the east. Perry decided that a trail named Expresso would be worth a reconnoitre some time soon! We reached the view point just before noon and sat in a patch of snow in bright sunlight for lunch. To the north we could see one of the ski lifts on Grouse Mountain, to the west Vancouver Island and directly below us West Vancouver towards Horseshoe Bay. Then onwards and downwards by St Georges trail to the junction with the trail to Fromme Mountain, which was discussed with varying amounts of enthusiasm. Finally, back to our cars after about 3 and a half hours with a half hour break for lunch. For most members the hike was partly or totally new. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all and scheduled for a repeat.
