Seymour Hike – 10 September
Maya writes
We started late, especially for a Martina hike, and it was hot – even at 9.30 am, it was hot. None of us had enough water with us. Luckily Maya had her filter with her and we found a tiny spot to fill our water bottles. It was about half way up, but, was the only spot of moving water on the whole mountain that we knew wasn’t full of dog pee! Great hike up to Tim Jones Peak. Slow, because of the heat and the crowds, especially those descending from an early start. We envied them. At the top, after paying our respects to Tim Jones, we found a tree beside a sunny spot. Those who wanted shade sat under the tree, those who wanted sun lay out in the sun – some even stripped – see photo. For a day in September this hike was unexpectedly hard because of the heat. But it was all worth it.
The two sunbathers, from the top, went swimming in a very muddy lake near the bottom of Seymour. Despite the heat of the day and the fact that the sun had been blasting this lake all summer, the water was frigid. Michelle lasted about a minute. Maya, a little longer, but needs kept her there!!!!
