Three Bridges and a Viking Bike Ride, February 21st 2022

Words by Iain

Eight cyclists met on the north shore on what could have been a rainy, foggy, snowy, cold day. Turned out to be bright sunshine although cold. New snow on the mountains made for a great backdrop to our bike ride. Big thanks to the two members who couldn’t make it but let us know so we could find a replacement and weren’t hanging around waiting - things like that make everything run more smoothly.

Southbound on Second Narrows was its usual hard work but there were tougher hills on the Trans Canada Trail, we all had to walk at one point. Spinning wheels. Met some road cyclists trying to come down some steps, mixed results there. High points were the friendly Viking of course, gas flares at Burnaby refinery, Neptune Terminal, RCMP failing to stop for us at a marked, flashing bicycle cross walk, friendly dogs, a narrow bridge over Highway 1 with a low parapet but great views, a former Girls Industrial School and the new bike route on Smithe and Haro making for fast downtown crossings.

Chocolates provided by Maya, thank you!
