7 of us set out early(ish) from the top end of the carpark at Seymour, heading for a promised sunny lunch on Tim Jones Peak (2nd Pump).  It was a rocky trail, and a bit icy so we weren’t rushing, being wary of twisted ankles, but we were surprised by the number of people already heading down the mountain at 9.30am – apparently they had set off at 6.40am, which was about when I got out of bed! The frost on autumnal leaves, and the patterns of ice on pools made for some lovely scenery as we wound our way up the trail.

 

Arriving at the junction to go left for 1st Pump or right to carry on to 2nd Pump, our party split with Perry and Honey choosing the closer peak for lunch – Perry was on Thanksgiving cooking duty later!  The rest of us continued up a steep rocky gulley, which actually looked worse than it was, and found a rock ledge suitable for lunch with a view.  The promised sunshine did make an appearance and the mountains opposite peeked out from the clouds occasionally so it was a very pleasant spot.  Making our way back down to the now packed carpark was a bit of a procession – it seemed everyone had come out to walk off the turkey – but at least the ice had melted, or been trampled into mud, so it was a straightforward descent.

 

Despite the number of people on the trail, it was a lovely day for a hike and we had a quiet lunch spot, so a good time was had by all .
