Moon Rise Sunset Spike - Pure Serenity!

Leader Glen

Maya Writes

Seven of us started late in the evening up Hollyburn to see the moon rise and the sun set. The moon started to rise just as we departed at 6:45 pm. The sun was due to set at 7.45 pm. We just made it to the top of Hollyburn a few minutes before the sun set. It was a  beautiful sunny clear evening. There were just enough clouds to the west to make for a great sunset. We met another group at the top and their dog Gigi. The dog was great and managed to bomb all the group photos (see group photo). Once it started to get quite dark and the moon was well on the rise, we started our descent. About halfway into our descent the moon, was high enough and almost full, such that the shadows casted by the moon were awesome.  The shadows cast by the trees, and Glen and I, who hung back without headlamps, made one feel like we were in an enchanted forest.  It was supremely beautiful. A fantastic hike led by Glen. It was nicely grounding and one felt serene.
