Lost Lake Hike

A merry band of ten set out on this approximately 13km hike with nearly 1000m of elevation gain and that was the biggest group of people most of us had been in for some considerable time. Great to see old friends and to carry out this challenging hike in poor weather conditions. The forecast was for light rain in the morning, clearing in the afternoon. The rain was only light in a West Coast sense and the hike up to the cabin resulted in us all being pretty wet. High points were encounters with lots of Rob’s favourite tree, the alder, attempting to find a route down that avoided the ropes (failing), and a spectacular domino fall initiated by Alex but taking out Louise and Afsana in the process.

It has to be said that we all learnt a lot on this hike. A month of warm dry weather had lulled some of us into a false sense of security. It’s certainly the last time I’ll be going on a hike without a toque and down jacket. We also had one injured hiker who was assisted back to the bottom of the hike by Sheila and given a ride home. Just a minor injury and the hiker will recover.
