Extremely Nice Bike Ride. June 4, 2022

It was a hybrid event, a co-mingling of NVOC and Wanderung that Perry organizes so well. It was also a day of extremes.
From the roar of traffic racing by our ears on the Lions Gate Bridge, wetransitioned into the tranquility of Stanley Park. This was all to soon left behind by the hustle (scantily dressed bodies playing beach volleyball) along Spanish Banks, and bustle (lots of bunnies hopping here and there and everywhere) around Jericho Sailing Club.
Spanish Trail was up next (literally…up! up!). Pacific Spirit Park is another oasis in the crazy chaos that is Vancouver. We drank in gorgeous greenery and silent, solemn trees. We stopped for a quiet lunch on the banks of the Fraser River. Not a duck to be seen, a testament, I believe, to the failing ecosystem that struggles underour successful efforts to pollute and poison.
The next contrast came along in the form of Kerrisdale, home to SUV’s that never leave the city. Nevertheless, it was refreshing to see so many cyclists on the Arbutus Greenway Bike Path. A breath of fresh air, which I hope we can preserveamid the exhaust fumes.
Beaver Lake in Stanley Park was a peaceful place of calm and colour. White and pink flowers winked shyly at us from their lily pads.
A day of contrasts to be happily remembered
