Spikes Out on New Year’s Eve’ 2024

Maya writes:-

Six of us set out in the fresh snow up Dog Mountain (Mt. Seymour). Three were new to night snowshoeing, and two had never even spiked before. It was chilly to begin with, but we soon warmed up. Thankfully, we had new snow because the reports on Alltrails, even from yesterday, said that it was very icy. It was only icy in a few places, and still some roots came through,  but largely it was nice compact snow. Perfect for spikes.

At the top we celebrated the closing of 2024 with a fantastic view of the city, helped along with Bailey's, chocolates, and cookies.

It was a grand introduction to night snowshoeing for the newbies, and great for the seasoned spikers. Views from the top were the best we've had in years.

It's a good omen for 2025!
