Cycle Ride to Jericho Sailing Club Patio for Lunch September 9th, 2023
There were two great rides on this fine morning. The second-best ride was the Grand Fondo….and we wished those riders the best for a great day!
For the first-best-bike-ride to Jericho Sailing Cub’s Patio, we had only two Club members participate. I’ll have to hire a better marketing team for next year ;). We started at 8:30 am near Phibbs Exchange, and proceeded over the Second Narrows Bridge. We took an off-the-beaten path route, through the PNE grounds, connecting over to the Kaslo Bike Route. From there, to Adanac Street & Lakewood Drive Bike Routes, arriving at the busyTrout Lake Farmers Market. I had heard it is one of the better farmers’ markets and it certainly lived up to its reputation!

After perusing the various fine produce & goods and seeing the many happy people whisking away with their purchases, we continued onwards to 37th Ave Greenway. Always a nice ride, cycling through City of Vancouver’s treed neighbourhoods. We soon arrived at Mountain View Cemetery, which is sprawling and historic. It contains many graves of those that perished in notorious BC disasters. We visited the Canadian-Japanese Section to search for any signs of those graves for CPR Railway workers whom sadly perished in the 1910 Snow-slide at Rogers Pass. No signs were found.

Westward to Queen Elizabeth Park, for a quick gap-view of one of the Lower Mainlands fast developing high-rise clusters, namely Oakridge Mall. One interesting tower profile spotted, see the included photo. The Cambie Corridor is densifying quickly! Gulp….another 3,000 more residential units, just at Oakridge only.
The Jericho Sailing Club’s view was fantastic. The North Shore Mountains were superb along with the ships at anchor in English Bay. We were able to pick-out the old Hollyburn Chair cut (which is getting harder to see with each year passing), The Lions, the full crown-profile of Crown Mountain, were also splendid. We had arrived just before noon which provided us with a good choice of tables. The burger & beer, along salad filled our stomachs for the ride home through Stanley Park and the Lions Gate Bridge. We had a quick-stop at the Stanley Park Rose Garden.
T’was fine company, a fine ride, and great all-around day!
