Brohm Lake Interpretive Forest, Saturday Jan 7, 2023
Dave writes:-
Despite the total lack of a blue skies and sunshine, six of us hardy members enjoyed a spike-
hike to Brohm Lake Interpretive Forest. The temperature was above freezing and skies cloudy,
then turning to light drizzle after lunch.
Perry, Margo, Olivia, and Dave met-up with Iain and Louise at the Ride-Hub Bike/cafe (at Garibaldi
Highlands) for a relaxing coffee break. While there, Perry was keenly eyeing-up a fine Electric
MTB on sale for $6300 but lacked the cash in-hand to purchase ;).
Onwards to the car park at Brohm Lake, we encountered a handful of keen cold-water dunkers
taking a dip in the mostly frozen lake. While one could say it is the holy week for Orthodox
Epiphany Swims, it seemed as they merely in to it for the thrill! Brrrrr….but good to see others
finding their own ways to enjoy the BC winter!
The trail conditions were bare dirt and rock for 5/8ths of the way, while 3/8ths of the way had
treacherous icy conditions. Spikes were used throughout the day. In the end, a smart watch app
recorded our walking distance at 11.5kms.
Foggy conditions prevented us from getting a good view of the Cheakamus River Valley and
any eagles feeing down there. However their cries could be heard ascending out of the fog
bank, below to make it a Sea to Sky experience.
Those same foggy conditions persisted for the drive back to North Vancouver. All of us were
glad to get out and enjoy the fresh air and each others company!
