Bike and Burgoo

Words by Iain

What a beautiful evening, September 1st 2022, for an after work bike ride. Idea was to have an easy ride and take our time in the Green Necklace. Route has been around since 1907 so no need to rush.

Steeply uphill on Chesterfield from the Quay got the hearts pumping and then we settled down to a much easier ride around the Necklace. Highlights were the cooling station just off Lonsdale with rotating crows, which did initially fly backwards, view from The Bench at the north end of the Necklace and a moving memorial at the water station at 23rd and St Andrews, and then spectacular harbour views in the evening sun as we descended to the quay from Moodyville Park.

Burgoo was excellent, good food and quality table levelling on slopey Lonsdale.

Ride home for some of us along the Spirit Trail and over Lions Gate on a warm summer’s evening rounded off the event in style.

We’ll have another try at something similar in East Van in a couple of weeks, weather permitting.
