Mt Killam, Gambier Island - Sat Jun 24, 2023

Louise writes:-

Eleven of us met at the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal on a very warm and sunny morning. We took the ferry over to Langdale on the Sunshine Coast then the water taxi over to Gambier Island.

From the dock we wandered up the road to the trailhead. The path was winding, featuring wooden boardwalks and steps through an old growth forest. The trail was not well marked. We started on the Wombat trail but somehow managed to miss the Maple trail sign as per our instructions. As a result we got ourselves turned around, ending up in a beautiful forest with lots of furry trees and lush moss,  but not heading upwards as we should have been.

We eventually found the right trail and started our climb up to the viewpoint and summit. We settled down for lunch at the viewpoint with stunning views of Bowen  and Keats Islands and beyond. Three hikers continued up the the top of Mount Killam whilst other hikers enjoyed the views and warm weather.

Hiking down was uneventful however, our detour added an extra 5kms onto the hike. We took the water taxi back to Langdale then the ferry over to Horseshoe Bay. The day ended with a visit to C-Lovers  in Horseshoe Bay where we indulged in fish, chips and a beverage.
