Mount Baker Camping, October 2024

Falling Waters by Margo

Our annual trip to Mt Baker began with 2 of us and grew to 8 on the weekend. Some of the group stayed at Perry’s campsite at Silver Lake and others stayed in a cabin, also at Silver Lake. The colours are magnificent this time of year.

First day was a 75km relatively flat ride to Everson, with stops for food and wifi.

It rained the morning of day 2 but eased up in the afternoon so we could get a short hike at Maple Falls. Perry cooked a delicious dinner for the whole group.

Day 3 was a hike to Yellow Aster Butte. The weather was great and there was a light dusting of snow at higher levels. It is a favourite hike, with the colours, blueberries, and panoramic views of Baker and Shuksan. We had to share the trail with many others but there was room on the 15 km round trip route.

We went in separate directions on Day 4 although all eventually went home. Some cycled into Maple Falls for breakfast and others did Ptarmigan Ridge.

It is a truly Thanksgiving kind of trip.
