Seven lovely ladies flouted the weather forecast and stepped out in West Vancouver to hike Brother's Creek.  And it was worth the flouting! The rain stopped as we stepped out and didn't come back until about half an hour after we arrived home. And it came back with a vengeance,  thunder and all.

We were thankful for last night's rain because Brother's Creek was in full raging flood. The sound was calming, and the visual was captivating.  It was amazing to see the creek so full and so powerful.

Part of the plan for the hike, seeing as it was November 11th, was to remember those who fought and died for their countries.  Our alarm for 10.50 am went off as planned. We tried to connect to CBC but there wasn't enough bars on the phone, so the buzz phrase for the beginning our two minutes of silence was "lest we forget." We ended our silence when the planes flew over at 11.02. Funnily enough, just after our two minutes of silence we came across a red mushroom that looked just like a poppy - see photo. It was a fitting tribute for the day that was in it.

After that we continued upwards and had lunch by Blue Gentian Lake.  We decided to make a loop of the hike and descended by Baden Powell Trail, back to the cars. This was a lucky move because the trail has been upgraded recently and was an easy fast descent. 

The hike was wonderful.  We saw a few glimpses of blue sky, and it was dry. What more could we ask for, mid-November?
