Tamsin and Louise’s Mystery Tour

Tamsin writes:- Mystery Tour – Take 2:

After a lovely week of sunshine Saturday dawned.... damp.  But seven intrepid cyclists braved the humidity and drizzle to join the 2nd attempt at Tamsin and Louise’s mystery bike tour (maybe not so much of a mystery this time).  We set a good steady pace along Ontario and across the Canada Line bridge arriving at the Massey Tunnel Bike Shuttle with 30 mins to spare – time for a snack and a chat with some passing cyclists (one of whom Hiroshi knew!) The friendly shuttle driver arrived and helped us rack up our bikes, occupying 7 of the 8 racks, much to the dismay of 2 other cyclists who arrived just before 11 and had to wait for him to return after dropping us off on the other side!

The weather continued warm, muggy, cool, drizzly, bright and cloudy throughout the day leading to much on and off of jackets as we cycled along River Road, up and over Alex Fraser bridge to a pleasant park where we stopped for lunch, sociably seated round a stone picnic table and happy it wasn’t raining.  After lunch, shared doughnuts and chocolate biscuits, we headed towards New West, across Queensborough bridge and onto the BC Parkway to make our way back downtown, via some adorable owl eco-sculptures in Central Park.  We got a little sidetracked by the Patron Saint of brewers, stopping for a pint and snacks in St Augustine’s.

Despite the variable weather this turned out to be a most enjoyable and sociable ride at a decent pace, clocking up nearly 70km for the ‘downtowners’ and an impressive 100km for the three brave north vancouverites who cycled home over Lions Gate bridge.
